Bubble tea, tea houses, Asian bakeries and dessert shops in this group are usually walk-in, counter-order businesses with a menu board overhead listing sweetness and ice levels you can adjust when ordering. Standard bubble tea customization includes sugar level (0-100%), ice level, and a choice of toppings like boba pearls, pudding or jelly, usually at a small extra charge. Asian bakeries sell items individually with tongs and a tray, cafeteria-style, rather than pre-boxed, and pastries are typically less sweet than Western bakery items. Lines build up quickly after school and in the evening, especially near colleges. Most of these businesses accept cards and mobile pay and skew younger in clientele and atmosphere.

Hours are published for 7 days a week. Typical hours are 9 am–6 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. Two out of three flavors of pound cake tasted strongly of acetone (lemon and matcha).

This was a dedicated gluten free bakery in a major grocery store. But now that they have added wheat products, I can no longer safety eat here.

Finally a yummy pastry place for us gluten-intolerants!!! Think Paris Baguette but GF! Delicious steamed Korean rice bread, Sulppang, that reminds me of the Filipino version, Puto. *They do have gluten (non-GF) baked goods as well, but those are clearly labeled “green label”—avoid those if you’re GF!! Was enamored by all the gluten free treats here, I def overloaded since us Celiac peeps don’t have many Asian bakery options! Love Basquia!!

We’re visiting the Bay Area and bought some wine from Napa Valley this morning. While shopping at Mega Mart for food to pair with it, we found a cheese-stuffed kabocha pumpkin. It was absolutely delicious—so healthy, flavorful, and a perfect match with wine! I wish they sold this in Tennessee, where I live. Highly recommend!
